Saturday 18 May – May Day Parade and Festivities

We are thrilled to invite you to our May Day Celebrations at The Brentham Club on Saturday 18 May 202! It promises to be an exciting and enjoyable event for all members to participate in and celebrate the arrival of spring. These celebrations have been a cherished tradition at The Brentham Club for over 100 years.

The festivities begin with a procession around the streets and this is expected to leave the club around 14:30 and returns to the club grounds around 15:00 to see the Maypole Dancing and the crowning of this year’s May Queen.

It’s a captivating sight with local residents waiting at their garden gates for their first glimpse of the parade. Taking part in the procession are little boys in fancy dress, the May Queen-elect, Britannia, Jack-in-the-green, and, the focus for many eyes, more than 150 young girls, all in white and adorned with fresh flowers. The curious figure of Jack-in-the-green (who looks like a walking and dancing bush and is often barefoot) adds to the festive air.

At the club we have planned activities and festivities for you to enjoy throughout the afternoon whilst indulging in delicious barbecued food, and refreshing Pimms. We encourage you to bring your family, friends, and neighbours to join in the celebration.
