Ealing Council’s plans for an outdoor lido

Councillor Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Council and Councillor Polly Knewstub, cabinet member for thriving communities, visited a popular lido facility in the neighbouring borough of Hillingdon earlier this week to see what it offered its residents.

The trip was part of a fact-finding mission as the council considers the creation of an outdoor lido in the borough.

Councillor Mason said: “Just as we promised in May 2022, we are going to deliver a lido for Ealing – a welcome addition to our great sporting facilities, and I know it would be a great benefit to families and anyone who enjoys the opportunity to swim in the open air.”

Provision of a lido is one of the objectives set out in the council plan, as part of the council’s key aim of providing new sporting facilities, as well as improving existing facilities, right across the borough.

Councillor Knewstub said: “I love open water swimming and I couldn’t be prouder to launch this project to bring a lido to Ealing.

“These are early days, but we would like to properly examine the feasibility of the creation of a new lido, as well as look into where such a facility would best be located in the borough.

“We want to create a new community swimming facility which is accessible to all, family orientated, promotes health and wellbeing and has sustainability at the heart of the project.”

Promoting better health, giving all residents and families the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of exercise, green spaces and the open air is at the heart of the council’s work to improve the lives of local people.

Thank you to Hillingdon Council for facilitating the lido visit, shown in the image.
